cinnamon roll pie crust

When I was typing that title, I accidentally wrote Cinnamon Roll Pie Crush, and to be honest, I almost left it. It felt right. I have a crush on this pie crust. It levels up any pie crust and is super easy to make. Why have a plain pie crust when you can also have cinnamon rolls as a part of your dessert? This will be a great addition to any holiday pie you’re planning for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I bet your guests will also have a crush on it.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 deep dish pie crusts from the grocery store

  • 3 Tbsp butter, melted

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

  • Dash of salt

  • Cooking spray

  • Flour for surface

INSTRUCTIONS

Let the pie crust sit on the counter until they reach room temperature.

Once they are room temp, take them out of the pie tins and ball them up into one big ball of dough.

Flour a countertop slightly, get out a rolling pin, and roll out the pie crusts to about an 18” by 12” rectangle. It doesn’t need to be exact! Use a knife (or a pizza cutter) to trim the sides to make the edges straight.

Mix together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a small bowl.

Melt the butter in the microwave and using a pastry brush (or spoon), spread the butter out onto the dough. Sprinkle the sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Don’t be afraid to bring it all the way to the edges of the dough.

Starting at the longer end of the dough, roll the dough up so that you have an 18” log. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into pieces that are about 1/2” thick.

Get out the pie dish that you plan to use and spray lightly with cooking spray.

Starting in the middle, put the cinnamon roll slices in the dish until it’s filled. Don’t worry if there aren’t any on the sides of the dish — once you start flattening it out, it will expand onto the sides.

Using your hands, start flattening the cinnamon rolls, being sure to spread them out to fill in any holes that may show up between each roll.

Once you’re happy with the shape, continue with the cooking instructions of the pie you are making. Some pies require baking the pie crust and some do not. Mine did, so I baked at 350 for about 15-20 minutes or until cooked through, but not overdone. If your pie recipe requires you to add the pie before baking, do that!

Enjoy, y’all! XOXO!
