Ammi's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ammi is the name my brother and I called our grandmother growing up, and goodness if she wasn't one heck of a baker. I found this recipe written in her handwriting on an index card while I was at home. I love how tattered the card is - I can imagine her in her kitchen, hands covered in flour and eggs, holding the card to see the next step. The messiness of the card was proof that she'd used it over and over again, so it had to be good. And it was. This is likely the only chocolate chip cookie recipe I'll make for the rest of my life. She knocked it out of the park.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 cup of softened unsalted butter

  • 3/4 cup of sugar

  • 3/4 cup of packed brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 2 eggs

  • 12 oz bag of milk chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Using a stand mixer, beat on medium high until fluffy. Once fluffy, beat in the eggs.

Gradually, add in the flour mixture slowly and mix well. When the mixture is consistent, stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop by rounded teaspoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 9 to 11 minutes.

Once you take these cookies out of the oven, you may be tempted to make another batch. And you know what, I don't blame you one bit.

*Not sure where my grandma got this recipe from or if she made it up, but it's really good.
